Sport promotes the potential for lifelong learning participation in physical activity. At the College we know that by engaging students in sports we provide them with a sense of community and social connectedness, help develop motor skills, movement competence and positive emotional health. 

The College has an impressive history in Sport and has achieved much success at local, regional, state, and national levels, while also producing Sporting Greats as alumni.

Our accomplished sporting history means we are competitive at local, regional, state, and national levels and our students benefit from advanced programmes, elite pathways, and strategic partnerships with external sporting organisations to further their sporting opportunities.

Every child has unique gifts and talents. For those whose passion and skill is sport, there’s no more encouraging environment than Coomera Anglican College. Here, young athletes succeed in their chosen sports, with the structure, facilities and coaching to bring out their best.

Preparatory to Year 3 HPE

Preparatory to Year 3 undertake two HPE classes every week. Here the students partake in a range of activities with a specialised teacher providing them with the opportunity to learn key physical attributes such as catching a ball, swinging a bat and team building skills. 

 

Students in Years Preparatory to Year 3 also have the opportunity to participate in an organised sporting programme. However, the main goal of this programme focuses on participation and enjoyment rather than competition.

 

Highlights for the Preparatory to Year 3 sporting programme include:

  • Participation in the House Cross Country Carnival (Term 1)
  • Year 3 participate in the House Athletics Carnival (Term 2) (with Year 4, 5, 6)
  • Preparatory to Year 2 Athletics Day (Term 3)
  • Preparatory to Year 3 Swimming Carnival (Term 4)

Year 4 to Year 6 HPE

Students in Year 4 to Year 6 undertake two HPE classes every week. Here the students partake in a range of activities with a specialised teacher providing them with the opportunity to learn to develop their skills into simulated game situations in various concepts. Game development occurs through an understanding of invasion games, striking and fielding games, net and court games and target games.

 

Highlights for the Year 4 to 6 sporting programme include:

 

  • House Swimming Carnival (Term 1)
  • House Cross Country Carnival (Term 1)
  • House Athletics Carnival (Term 2)
  • APS interschool competition (Season 1 and Season 2)
  • Further selection into Hinterland sporting teams with the possible progression towards State Team selection

Year 7 to Year 9 HPE

Health and Physical Education is taken by all students from Year 7 to 10. The programme covers a range of health education topics, such as nutrition and personal care, as well as a range of sports and fitness activities.

Year 10 to Year 12 HPE

Year 10 students partake in a compulsory core subject - Physical Education. Students participate in an “Aussie Sports” unit, with a focus on Rugby Union, AFL, Netball and Soccer. Through participating in a high number of practical units, students are exposed to a range of popular Australian sports, and they develop an appreciation for Australian sports culture. 

 

Students will also combine the learning of practical lifesaving skills with the development of first aid and resuscitation in the Lifesaving unit. From here if students wish to study physical education in Year 11 and 12, they are required to study the elective subject “IMPROVING THE BODY’S PERFORMANCE IN SPORT”.

 

Physical Education is offered as general senior subject elective in Year 11 and 12. This subject provides students with knowledge, understanding and skills to explore and enhance their own and others' health and physical activity in diverse and changing contexts.

APS Competition

All students in Year 4 to 12 at Coomera Anglican College participate in regular sporting fixtures within the Associated Private Schools (APS) Competition. The Association includes eight independent schools located on the Gold Coast. The member schools of the APS include:

  • All Saints Anglican School
  • Coomera Anglican College
  • Emmanuel College
  • Kings Christian College
  • Somerset College
  • Saint Stephen’s College
  • Trinity Lutheran College

 

Coomera Anglican College is also a member of the Queensland Secondary Schools Sports Association and participates in competition organised by the South Coast Regional Sports Office and the Hinterland District Sports Association (HDSA).

 

Throughout the year students have the opportunity to gain selection in the APS/HDSA Team in various team sport and if successful, the South Coast Regional Team. Higher representative honours are then available to students who demonstrate the necessary talent and commitment.

Sports Academies

As part of our continuing commitment towards inspiring excellence, the College provides students with an elite based training environment through our Football (incl Futsal), Netball and Basketball Academy Programmes. 

 

Our world-class Sports Academies have been developed based on creating the right environment for success, educating the whole student, creating partnerships and pathways, and ensuring great coaches and mentors are available to our students. Acceptance into the Sports academies is based on the student's ability and commitment.

 

All applications for Sports Academies are completed online. Applicants must be current student at Coomera Anglican College.

 

Scholarships are available for students from Year 7 to Year 12 based on their sporting achievements.

Sports Clubs

Coomera Anglican College Netball and Basketball Clubs were established to allow students to be involved in these great sports in the wider community.

 

The College Clubs aim to provide students with limitless opportunities to develop both their netball or basketball and leadership skills, while learning the importance of teamwork in a safe and thriving environment.

 

The College has a high calibre of coaches who encourage and support students all whilst being part of a caring and fun team.

 

Through engagement in these club sports, students learn leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, responsibility, self-discipline, and a sense of initiative.

Athlete Development Programme (ADP)

This is an elite programme for selected students in Year 4 to 6 to improve their overall fitness levels in the key areas of cardiovascular endurance, strength, speed and agility, as well as mental preparation and the role it plays the athlete development. It is run over the first three terms of the year.

Strategic Sporting Partners 

Coomera Anglican College has entered into a number of strategic partnerships with a number of high quality sporting organisations. As we educate the ‘whole person’ through our programme, partnerships allow for peer mentoring, career pathways, skills enhancement and exposure to different levels within their sporting field. Working in partnership with a number of sporting bodies allows for further development and enhancement of our students skills and abilities and helps to support and strength local competition.

 

North Gold Coast Seahawks | Basketball Coomera Anglican College initiated the partnership with North Gold Coast Seahawks in 2017 and has continued their mutual support through multiple levels of the association over the past number of years. Coomera Anglican College is the naming rights sponsors to the Junior Seahawks representative program. Our College is focused on junior player development, and supports pathways for players through the introductory Basketball programs, to the Queensland State League, and hopefully beyond.

Gold Coast Titans | Netball Gold Coast Titans announced their new Netball Academy in 2022, and Coomera Anglican College came on board immediately as a sponsor and host of their training programme. Working closely with Gold Coast Titan’s Netball, we aim to provide pathways for emerging players, make connections, and learn from a wide range of coaches.
